After Paul Colman had his go and designed some pretty rad sneakers that unleashed the colour beast I designed my very own pair of NIKE Air Max, as well. I wasn’t as experimental as Paul with my choice of colours. No need to draw attention to your feet when you look good…

All the plaudit hymns may have led him to the belief that he can wear anything without losing his dignity. At the Client Christmas party last night at Wieden+Kennedy he proved that he actually is right. Paul Colman can wear whatever he wants and still look phenomenal.

So. It’s out. The new NIKE+ commercial by Crispin, Porter+Bogusky.
NIKE+ ad by Crispin, Porter+Bogusky
I think it’s utterly shit. But that’s because CP+B has done it. Would GREY be responsible for NIKE maybe everybody would say that it’s good work.
Thank god still Wieden+Kennedy and CP+B are responsible for the majority of NIKE ads and therefore we can judge it as a tad boring. I think Dan Wieden did a commercial with running Neanderthals in the 80s and it’s still known as the worst NIKE commercial Wieden+Kennedy ever did. And now CP+B just add some running people from throughout the centuries? Only to end with a forced punchline and a horrible packshot? Come on. Compared to Wieden’s NIKE+ campaign this is not only one step back but a nice 10k run.
NIKE+ ad by Wieden+Kennedy
Some of you might say I am biased but I’m not (hey I”m not even on a permanent contract). I just love the NIKE brand and it’s core message of “Just do it”. After most NIKE ads I felt the urge to go out and do some sports. This time I just want to switch the channel. No just do it magic left. Sorry.
Nonetheless I know that this is maybe just a false or halting start for Crispin, Porter+Bogusky and I am sure they have brilliant digital and ambient work to adjust this broadcasting mistake. Furthermore I know that their next commercial will be breathtaking. Everything else would be inappropriate for NIKE.

He wanted to break borders. He wanted to challenge our senses and baffle the human eye. But all he got at Wieden+Kennedy was laughter, disapproval and compassionate smiles. For what? Well for his new NikeID shoes.
But, ladies and gentleman, Paul H. Colman is not a bad taste fool. No, he is a pioneer of the patent leather, a connaisseur of the colour, a legend of the lace…a man who pushed the borders of common sneaker and colour senses to let us all live in a world freed from monotony and boredom.
Everyone can wear white sneakers with a colourful swoosh or three stripes of gold or a blue Converse All Star. But it takes a real man to wear the “NikeID Colman”. So please don’t let him down and fight his capitulation to sneaker facists. Let him life his multicoloured dream and support him in the comments. He won’t say it but I am sure he will appreciate your words of warmness.

On Saturday me and fellow sider Sarah went to Heathfield in East Sussex. Or precisely: to a scrap yard called “Hazelmere” in Heathfield East Sussex. That meant we had to get up at 5 am in the morning to meet each other at Finsbury Park. Sarah came by car. I went by tube. After approximately 20 minutes of looking for each other while pending between two different exits we went on our long and lovely trip down South.
At around 8:30 we arrived and were friendly greeted by the nice boss of the scrap yard. We shot some nice footage including a giant magnet, piles of metal scrap, a big crane and a formidable claw. The guys were really patient and repeated each scene as many times as we wanted. Excited by the claw we did an extra shot that wasn’t planned. It looked terrific and unfortunately left a few dents in the chair. But they give the chair a nice vintage and used appeal. Though we’re not sure if Guy, our lovely head of design, will think about them. He gave us the chair.
After all that filming we were kind of hungry. So on our way back to London we stopped at a gas station to enchant our starving stomachs with nice local, steaming specialities. Unfortunately we only found potato hot dogs in the hot food section.
We grabbed sandwiches and cookies and went straight to Tubby’s place to bring him the equipment. He needed it next day because he and Ian would fly to emeco’s factory in Hanover, Pennsylvania to film more stuff. We’re excited who our material will turn out in the edit and what the guys will bring back home from the States.

A lot of water has run down the Thames since I was in Norway. Not alone but together with my ex-creative director Christoph, his lovely wife Anne-Siri and my best and smallest buddy Lenny. Don’t get the headline wrong. With Iceland, Norway is the most beautiful country I’ve been to so far. Silence, sundowns and sand between toes at gorgeous beaches. That’s what this holiday was about. Oh, certainly it was about beer and wine at night, BBQ, diapers and running as well. I had the time to run every day what was brilliant. Here are some pictures. If you like to see more click here for my flickr set.

This is a bit late as it was weeks ago but it was just a nice start of the week. A normal Monday at Wieden+Kennedy in London with a vodka tasting starting down in the basement kitchen at 5 pm. Needless to say that with Wyborowa being a client of the Amsterdam office this was research. Somehow.

Tubby during tasting, Fabian downing the ninth shot.
Helping Ian and Tubby clearing the last bottles.

A sparkler and a cap for Noe’s new visa.
